Small Laboratory Mouse (Syrian)
Five types of rats are bred and kept in this department:
1. Inbred including strains:C57BL/6, DBA2, C3H, FVB/N, MTK, C57W & BALB/
2. Outbred including strains: NMRI (Naval Medical Research Institute), NIH, CD1 & SW (Swiss Webster)
3. Hybrid including B6D2 strain
NMRI strain small laboratory mouse
Small laboratory mouse strain C57BL/6
4. Transgene: Two types of transgenic mice are bred in this department for breeding research purposes.
* Embryo Transgenic Strains:
This category includes mice produced by the researchers of Royan Research Institute in Iran to localize genetic engineering technology and meet the needs of universities and research centers in the field of using transgenic mice (green mice). Including the strains of:
* Foreign Transgenic Strains:
Transgenic strains that have been prepared from reputable centers abroad to meet the research objectives of Royan Research Institute: N5B6, N3BALB/c, B6129S7-Dicer1tm1Smr/J, B6129P2(129S4)-Eif2c2tm1.1Tara/J, B6129S-Tg(UCB- cre /ERT2)1Ejb/J, MRL/MPJ
5. Mice with immunodeficiency including strains: Nude C57BL & Nude BALB/c. These strains can only be kept under special conditions in clean rooms.
Rat
Two types are reproduced and kept in this section:
Laboratory Rabbit (Lagomorph)
Outbred including: New Zealand White (NZW)

* Embryo Transgenic Strains:
This category includes mice produced by the researchers of Royan Research Institute in Iran to localize genetic engineering technology and meet the needs of universities and research centers in the field of using transgenic mice (green mice). Including the strains of:
- PCAG-EGFP-ires-Puro: This mouse strain is GFP (Green Fluorescent Protein) positive and resistant to neomycin. So that all the cells of this mouse are green under ultraviolet light. This strain can be used in regenerative and transplant medicine.
- Pdx1-EGFP: Pancreatic cells of this mouse strain are GFP positive (Green Fluorescent Protein). So that the pancreas of this mouse is green under ultraviolet light.
- Covid mice: The ACE2 gene has entered the mouse genome as a receptor for the Covid-19 virus. This mouse is susceptible to covid disease.
* Foreign Transgenic Strains:
